Overview:
The object of this competition is to imitate the graphical style
of a specific game by creating an original character
in the same style.
Competition Details:
The First Official
William Henry Harrison Memorial
Pixel Graphics Competition
Sponsored by TPS
Start Date: 3/11/06 (Saturday)
Deadline: 3/26/06
Contest: Style Imitation
Graphic Type: Character Portrait
Character: Artist's Original Creation
Image Type: Handmade 2D Bitmap Graphics
Game Style: Fire Emblem (click for details)
Dimensions: 96x80 suggested
Unique Colors: fewer than 16
General Rules:
-
All entries must be original characters of your own design. Any non-original
characters received will be included in the gallery, they just will not
be eligible to win, so don't let that stop you. This is mostly just
for fun, after all.
Some examples of non-original characters:
Megaman, Mr. Blobby, Nene Romanova, Ron Hubbard, Homer Simpson, Wario,
Kusanagi Mokoto, Alexander the Great.
Those are examples of characters that do not qualify.
-
There is no limit to the number of submissions an individual can make;
however, if any of the entries are very similar (e.g. of the same character)
only one of them will be judged (the rest will still be included in the
gallery.) In this case, please state which one of your similar entries
you want to be judged when you submit. Also, to restate and clarify
the first sentence: if you want multiple entries judged they must be of
different characters.
-
The exact scoring system will be determined based on the number of judges,
but will be based on an average score. In case of ties, there will
be one tie-breaker round. If any entries are still tied after that
they will be awarded the same rank, except in the case of a tie for first
place, in which case the competition organizer will decide the winner.
-
Any entries that are disqualified or received after the deadline will be
ineligble to rank, but will still be placed in the gallery.
-
This competition is open to anyone capable of emailing an entry!
See the entry form for details.
Rules concerning judges and judging:
-
All entries must be submitted to the proper email address using an official
entry form. Submissions will be placed in the gallery as they arrive.
After the deadline passes the competition organizer will
then assign each entry to be judged an arbitrary ID number and shuffle
them. Each entry will be examined for style and technical issues
and points will be added or subtracted as necessary. The judges will
then score each entry based on esthetic value (note that they will only
know the ID number of each entry, nothing else). The competition
organizer will then combine the results, along with any score modifiers,
and announce the final rankings.
-
There will also be a gallery of all submissions, regardless of whether
or not they were actually judged, so feel free to send any images that
don't qualify (e.g. images in the correct style but of non-original characters).
-
Judges are permitted to enter the contest as well, as they can't reasonably be
prevented from doing so without placing severe restrictions on who may enter, but they will
not be allowed to judge their own works and are on their honor to be fair to the other contestants.
-
Judges must apply for the position prior to the beginning of the contest
and must either be well known members of the community or have at least
one reliable reference.
