Average Score: 9.72
Comments:
+ Face mimicks FE design excellently.
+ Great use of limited colour.
+ Great hair and shading on it.
+ Eyes in style.
-Outline needs tidying.
Looks perfect, this clearly had a lot of work put into it
Again I am wow'd. It emulates the style perfectly with no apparent flaws. Under the encyclopedic definition of "example", this image is present.
Nearly perfect down to the very last detail. My only complaint is the shading on the chest and front of the neck is just a little too dark and looks kind of out of place. When you zoom in it looks much better but in it's normal zoomed out size it just doesn't fit. Everything else is ideal especially the hair.
This one shows great talent. Hair is great, jacket fits like a glove, and the chest and face fit very well. The only downfall I see is the ear; it looks to be a bit off. Needs to be a bit bigger and the angle has to be adjusted. Other then that, this is very close to the real thing.

(lost points on face. :-s)
+ Effective hair design.
+ Great use of limited colours.
+ Very nice shading, perticularly on clothing.
+ Nice character design.
- Face shifted too far left, uncentered.
- Mouth too small.
- Awkward eye design.
Very very well done, but seems a tad bit lumpy, doesnt seem to fit.
I really do regret not giving this a 10, but her head seems too round.
I can't find anything to complain about with this one. It matches the Fire Emblem style perfectly.
Great detail in armor. That shows, but when it gets to the head there are a few little mistakes. For the hair I see no dark tones on the top area of her hair so it doesn't show its full detail, and her eyebrows are just a bit too sharp. Also she does not look to have a normal jawbone. I know women don't have big ones, but this shows no bottom edge.
Slightly out of the FE style, but still very solid nonetheless.

I personally, truly, & honestly couldn't find anything wrong with this entry. Great use of color, proportion, and style. Awe-worthy.
This one is hard to call from a stylistic point of view since the character is completely covered in the armor. The shading itself is perfect and there don't seem to be any color flaws or unsteady edges. Possible style questions aside I don't see why this shouldn't be in the running for first place.
This one I like a lot. The helmet shading looks pretty much perfect. Just as it gets more towards the shoulders, it seems to not have that great of a glossly look. That red cloth fits well and has great shading, I only have to say that I wish it had a darker dark tone. Used space very well and the silver trims are great. This one shows alot of work.
DAAAAAAAYUMN! Highlights on the shoulders look a tad strange, though.

Honorable Mention (tie)

Isabelle by
Jennifer "Ifer" Lawrence

Average Score: 8.95
Comments:
+ Good use of limited colours.
+ Nicely made hair.
+ Good character design.
- Inner outline too obvious. (needed "anti-aliasing" like offical FE sprites.)
- Eyes TOO large. Not in FE style.
- On the subject of eyes, eye outline is wrong colour, out of FE style.
Looks very nearly like actual game imagery
...big...eyes...
My one complaint here is that the sprite doesn't really seem to fit the "Fire Emblem" style. In particular the eyes don't quite match up with what you normally would see. Other than that the shading is perfect, there doesn't seem to be any rough edges etc. etc.
Looks good. Shows a great effort. Hair fits, shirt has great shading, necklace and headband have great shading too. But the eyes don't seem to match the style of Fire Emblem. One of the major things I see is that this could have been larger. This is only about 66 pixels high when the suggested limit was 80. Those 14 pixels can make a big difference. Five more pixels higher and you can get more room to show the face and more details on the gems. Overall this shows a great deal of effort.
Also slightly out of style, but too good for me to complain.

Average Score: 8.95
Comments:
+ Effective use of limited colour.
+ Clothing in style. Shaded very well.
+ Pallete mimicks VG system.
+ Well shaded face.
- Awkward face design.
oooh dark and scary
His face is too bright.
If I had one nitpick, the right side of the hood opening doesn't really have a defined edge so it's hard to tell what's shadow and what's actually meant to be the inside of the hood. Because of that it looks like the hood is open and empty all the way up to the top of the character's head. Other than that though I can't find anything wrong with this one.
This one shows the artist must have a lot of experence in one type of field. The robe looks great, looks natural, and has the right color tones. The face looks great, but it doesn't really seem to fit into the Fire Emblem style. Seems to be a little too realistic. Not enough of an anime face look. That's its only major problem. Great Entry.
Jeez, this is great, though I'd complain about the face/chin/jaw shape.

Good entry, but her head looks quite small for the cloak.
I think this one would look better to me if you could see the hood covering the other side of the face. It doesn't look like it's being worn correctly or that it's just floating on the character's head. Everything else looks great though. The cloak itself has a very good definition to it.
Definitely a good effort. This artist does show that he has some experience in the cloth area and decided to show that. I can only see a few minor flaws in this. If you look at the overall appearance of the cloth, it seems to have not so much detail. Yes it does go with the shading but it seems there wasn't enough of the middle shade. Also, the biggest problem I see in this one is that the artist didn't use more space; he/she could have used more space and shown more detail. I feel the face fits well and looks good.
Very solid presentation, though a few parts are awkward - the high hood gives an odd illusion.

+ Face in style.
+ Nicely done hair.
+ Limited colours on face used effectively.
- Clothing out of style.
- Clothing too bright.
- Clothing undetailed.
- Clothing does not match the rest of the sprite.
- Clothes on second sprite needed outline to match rest of sprite.
- Clothes outline on first sprite too dark.
Looks cool, but the hair and coat seem to be a facade in front of an existing sprite, and i dont like the effect it creates
I feel like there could've been a bit more contrast on the hair. Also I don't like how the outfit, halo, and horns are shaded.
The head/face and the hair on this one look fantastic but the coat looks completely out of place and undefined. Particularly in the white version. The black version of the coat is a little better particularly on the right sleeve but still strikes me as flat.
Unfortunately, when I first looked at this one the top part of the hair looked good, but then as it gets longer it doesnt seem to fit. After taking another look at it in zoom, I saw that the author copied and pasted the hair for the thief (3rd sheet, bottom-center) and worked off of that. I feel that that was way too much of a copy of of the real stuff and I am not fond of sprite edits. Well, enough of that, the face could use a bit more work. It does fit with the style I just think maybe a bit more on the darker contrast. And lastly for the jacket, it seems to be too flat. It only shows where his shoulders start and end, no chest or anything. The white jacket one there does NOT have enough contrast (dark to light) and the halo just looks to be one solid color. The major downfall for me was the hair, the top was copied and what was added didn't fit with it much.
Shading. Heard of it? Hair and exposed face look nice. Rest looks... meh.

Average Score: 4.33
Comments:
+ Eye well done.
+ Mouth in style.
- Hair out of style. (Pillow shaded.)
- No outline on hair.
- Outline on face doesn't match outline on clothing.
- Absolute black used. FE never uses absolute black.
- Outline on clothing needs tidying.
- More shades on clothing needed.
Looks hand drawn, doesnt fit the style.
Horridly fluffy hair and bad shading on the outfit and around the eye.
Shading is really good in places and not so great in others. The border around his cloak/robe is noticably blotchy, particularly when you zoom out on the picture. There is also no border around the hair. The entire character should have a dark edge around him otherwise it loses definition. There should also be colors that are a little bit closer to one another on the pallette so the edges have a soft fade rather than a sharp look to them.
Shows effort but not enough skill. It would have been a good setup but the talent wasn't really there. That hair doesn't haven enough contrast, neither does his eyes. And the cloth does not have smooth lines. It looks as though it was drawn with the pencil tool and didn't bother with the clean up. Same goes for how the hair is drawn. Could use a lot of inprovement.
Learn to clean up your presentation. It looks a mess. Messy lines, messy shapes, messy shading, and different shading/lining styles in the face and the rest. Promise is there, though.

+ Good shading on the face.
+ Nicely done eyes.
- Shading on other parts of the body innacurate.

- Hair out of FE style.
- Lack of clothing hurts design.
- Chest antatomically incorrect.

WTF
Well. He's pillow-shaded around the whole body, his hair looks odd, and his ear seems droopy.
The color palette is good. Since he's not wearing clothing the shading on his skin could be a little bit more in-depth. My biggest complaint is the hair particularly on the right side where it looks like it sticks out too far and comes to a point.
Shows a lot of effort in staying in the style and shading of Fire Emblem, but I do feel as though the jaw looks to be uneven. His right side gives the look of being more lower while the left side doesn't really show the edge of the jawbone. Also, the hair does not look to be in the shading style and does not have a dark enough outline. Overall, looks to be a bit too plain. Good effort though.
I barely know where to start. Looks completely inhuman. I suggest you look at some more drawings and photos of people...
